Art Courses
ARDINGTON SCHOOL OF CRAFTS
October 23rd, 2025

A one-day workshop in 'A Splash of Watercolour'
You will be using watercolours in a loose and lively way where the emphasis will be on creating exciting images rather than painting in great detail. The workshop will focus on painting water, from crashing seas and tranquil rivers to waterfalls and muddy puddles. You will learn how to paint water in using wet-in-wet techniques for soft effects or more defined strokes for reflections, starting with a base wash and adding details while the paper is damp, leaving white space for light reflections, and considering context like the sky's colours and foreground elements to create a believable scene. You will also learn how to use white gouache in a limited way to add an extra dimension to the tops of waves. All reference material will be provided, but you may also wish to work from some of your own images.
A workshop for everyone, although some experience in using watercolours would be an advantage.
