Plein Air Watercolour Sketchbook with Kevin Scully is a one-day outdoor painting workshop in the village of Painswick. We will meet at The Painswick Centre, Bisley Street, Painswick, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL6 6QQ.

A day spent painting in the pretty village of Painswick, working in sketchbooks using watercolour or your favourite water-based medium. Your sketches can become the basis for future paintings or serve as a visual reminder of your day painting en plein air.

You will be shown how to choose the best viewpoints and given advice on composition, materials, and equipment, what to include in your sketches and, importantly, what to leave out. Kevin will share examples of different approaches to filling a sketchbook and will provide demonstrations throughout the day.

We will meet at The Painswick Centre at 9.45am for a brief introduction to the workshop before heading out. Please be prepared for a five-minute walk on flat ground to the painting location.

Should the weather be unfavourable at any time, photographic reference will be provided so you can continue working in the studio. Your paintings can be simple sketches or more detailed studies, depending on your preference. If you’ve never painted outside before, this is your opportunity to experience painting en plein air.
